Hi @Frustraded,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the HP PC diagnostic test keeps running without completing and your LED power light isn't turning on, it could indeed indicate a problem with the A/C adapter or the power supply. Here's what you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.

  • Check the A/C Adapter: First, make sure that the A/C adapter is securely plugged into both the wall outlet and your notebook's power port. Also, inspect the adapter for any visible damage such as frayed wires or bent connectors. If you have access to another compatible adapter, try using it to see if the LED power light turns on.
  • Inspect the Power Port: Examine the power port on your notebook for any physical damage or debris that might be preventing a proper connection. Use a flashlight to look inside and ensure there are no obstructions.
  • Reset the Notebook: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve power-related issues. Turn off your notebook, remove the battery (if removable), unplug the A/C adapter, and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. Then, reinsert the battery (if applicable), plug in the A/C adapter, and try turning on the notebook again.
  • Test with Battery Only: If your notebook has a removable battery, try powering it on using only the battery power. If the LED power light still doesn't turn on, it could indicate a broader hardware issue beyond just the A/C adapter.

It's important to address power issues promptly, as they can sometimes lead to further damage if left unresolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
