Hi @PanseyFace75,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
As I understand, you're unable to type the alphabet in the password,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
When was the last time it worked fine?
Were there any hardware/software changes made?
Have you tried using the onscreen keyboard?
Have you tried using an external keyboard?
If not, I suggest you use an onscreen and also try an external keyboard:
To use Onscreen Keyboard, you could refer to an example shown in the picture below:
Also, try running a keyboard test:
Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
On the main menu, click Component Tests.
The Component Tests menu displays.\
Select Keyboard Test.
Keyboard Test - The Keyboard test provides a quick interactive functional test of the keys on the keyboard. A keyboard is required for this test.
To run the test, click Keyboard, and then click Run once.
The Keyboard Test time is 3 minutes.
Uninstall and reinstall Keyboard drivers:
In Device Manager, uninstall and reinstall the keyboard software:
In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Click View and select Show Hidden Devices.
Figure: Show hidden devices
Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard device name, then select Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.
Continue removing device names in the Keyboards category until all device names have been uninstalled.
Restart the notebook. Right-click Start (), select Shut down or sign out, then select Restart.
Wait for the computer to restart and open Windows.
The keyboard should now work correctly.
BIOS Default:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes.
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Update Bios from this link using your product or serial number and select the current OS.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
