As I wrote earlier...you can't do anything from Internet explorer, and you have to use another PC to do anything until you get the Firefox file downloaded from the link.

 

Then you copy the file to a USB flash drive plug the flash drive into your notebook and run the file from there and it will install Firefox without the need to use Internet explorer on your notebook at all.

 

Use this link, because maybe the one I gave you is too new...this one is specifically for XP and Vista.

If you are still at an impasse, you can purchase recovery media for your notebook from this vendor at the link below:

 

Computer Surgeons - Recovery Kit 579094-002 For HP Model Number dv6-1238nr

 

That will have all the drivers, but Internet Explorer still won't work.

JUST HAVE TO FIGURE OUT THE OTHER BECAUSE I DID AS YOU SAID AND MY LAPTOP IS STILL REJECTING THE FILE FOR FIREFOX  SOMETHING TO DO WITH CERTIFICATES   I DONT KNOW

You can also try the old Chrome version for Vista:

 

Download Google Chrome 26.0.1410.5 Dev for Windows - OldVersion.com

 

Click on the green download button under all that file info.
