HI @kirukan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To address the issue of your HP laptop running Windows 7 being unable to connect to your Nokia Fastmile 5G Gateway WiFi modem, you can follow these troubleshooting steps.

Ensure WiFi is Enabled:

  • Make sure the WiFi switch on your laptop (if it has a physical switch) is turned on.
  • Ensure that WiFi is enabled in Windows. You can check this in the Network and Sharing Center.

Restart the Modem and Laptop:

  • Restart your Nokia Fastmile 5G Gateway modem.
  • Restart your laptop.

Forget and Reconnect to the Network:

  • Go to Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks.
  • Find your WiFi network, right-click on it, and select Remove network.
  • Try to reconnect to the network and enter the password again.

Update WiFi Drivers:

  • Visit the HP website and download the latest WiFi drivers for your laptop model.
  • Install the updated drivers and restart your laptop.

Check WiFi Settings:

  • Ensure that the WiFi network is using a compatible encryption method (WPA2 is recommended).
  • Check if your laptop’s wireless adapter supports the 5GHz band if the network is 5GHz.

Disable and Enable WiFi Adapter:

  • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
  • Find your WiFi adapter, right-click, and select Disable.
  • After a few seconds, right-click again and select Enable.

Use Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Right-click on the network icon in the system tray.
  • Select Troubleshoot problems and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check for Interference:

  • Ensure there are no devices nearby that could interfere with the WiFi signal (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).

Network Settings:

  • Ensure your laptop's IP settings are set to obtain an IP address automatically. Go to Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings, right-click on your WiFi connection, select Properties, double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and ensure both options are set to Obtain automatically.

Router Settings:

  • Log in to your Nokia Fastmile 5G Gateway’s admin interface and check for any settings that might be blocking your laptop (e.g., MAC address filtering).

If none of these steps work, consider upgrading your operating system. Windows 7 is outdated and may have compatibility issues with newer hardware and software. Upgrading to Windows 10 or 11 could resolve connectivity issues and provide better security and performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
