Hello,

I'm having serious issues with the MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) PCIe adapter on my HP laptop. The adapter constantly disconnects from my home Wi-Fi and often won’t reconnect unless I restart or forget the network (even this has stopped working lately).

Here's what I’ve tried so far:
Steps I’ve already taken:

1. Driver reinstallation:

  • Previously had version 3.4.0.1100.

  • Now downgraded to 3.0.1.1317 from a post from this page. I cannot find any driver version for hp products for MediaTek in this website.

  • No improvement with either version.

2. Driver settings:

  • With 3.4.x, the "Power Management" tab was missing, but “Power Saving” appeared under Advanced and was disabled.

  • With 3.0.1.x, the Power Saving option isn’t even present — only "Roaming Aggressiveness", which I set to the lowest.

3. Enabled WWAN AutoConfig and set it to automatic — no change.
4. Power drain/reset:

  • Powered off, unplugged all USBs, held power button for 60 seconds, rebooted — still disconnecting.

Additional Info:

  • I haven’t performed a system reset yet because I have important files, but I’m aware the MT7921 adapter has a long history of bugs.

  • This issue isn't limited to my home Wi-Fi. It also happens when I use my phone as a hotspot (mobile data). At least that connects for a bit. But with my home router, the adapter either doesn’t connect or drops in 5 minutes and won’t reconnect.

  • Ethernet connection works flawlessly.

  • Other Wi-Fi networks sometimes work fine — it seems like this adapter is especially unstable with certain routers.

Router details (just in case it's relevant):

  • Model: Infinity 401 (CastleNet)

  • Wi-Fi Bands: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (Dual Band)

  • Encryption: WPA2-PSK

  • ISP: Claro

My questions:

  • Is there a stable driver version for HP laptops specifically?

  • Could this be a hardware compatibility issue with certain routers?

This has been affecting my work and overall use of the laptop.Networks Adapters availableNetworks Adapters availableMediaTek PropertiesMediaTek Properties

Since I bought it, the Wi-Fi behavior has been very random — sometimes it works fine, other times it just stops working for no clear reason. For example, yesterday it worked perfectly all day, without any issues, until the afternoon and evening when it started disconnecting again and showed the message "Can't connect to this network".

I also tried resetting the network settings and ran the common CMD commands (like netsh winsock reset, netsh int ip reset, etc.), but that didn’t help either.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to update the MT7921 Wi-Fi driver to the latest version HP currently has:

Version 3.0.1.1331    10/17/2024

sp157416.exe
