OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 15-ax004na (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

For the past few weeks I have been trying to resolve an issue which I am having with connecting my laptop to my LG tv.

I own a OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 15-ax004na (ENERGY STAR), I have had it for about 3 years and is just out of warranty (FML).

When I first got it, I could easily use the "Project" option to connect to my wireless TV. Recently when I go to do this, it can see the TV but I then get an issue on the TV stating my device disconnected.

I thought the issue lay with the TV so updated all the tv drivers, changed to 2G then back to 5G to try and fix it but nothing did. I then thought to try other products.

Both my phone and my partners phone  (which are older than both the TV and the laptop) are able to screen share with no issue what so ever. I have uninstalled the Intel wireless adaptor to see if it works but it doesn't.

The only thing which I can see that others mention is that in dxdiag it states Miracast: Available, with HDCP. It also could be linked to the fact that as this is a gaming laptop it has both Intel and Nvidia graphics drivers.

I do not have other TVs but I am certain that this issue is confined to my laptop.

I really just want to be able to project my screen to my tv, any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

@Candlemoth As per your product specifications, the device doesn't support miracast and hence the only way you can project to the TV or any alternate device, is by using the  HDMI output ports,
For more details on getting that done, you may click here

Hi @riddle_decipher,

I decided to do a factory reset on my laptop as I had to get a recovery usb.

I believe it was actually intel's WiDi that was connecting to the screenshare function on my tv. Ever since the reset I could keep sharing my screen to the tv provided that I:

Didn't update the intel driver

Changed a setting on my anti-virus

Didn't update windows past a certain point

What I don't understand from your post is why you state I don't have miracast but my dxdiag says something else. The page you linked to does not confirm or deny miracast.

@Candlemoth The way it works on the product specifications page is that, if a particular part/feature is available on a device, it would be mentioned, if it isn't, it means its not supported or unavailable.

Mira-cast is usually mentioned next to wireless card, as mentioned in this article for another device.

I hope that helps!
