HP 15-bw000 Laptop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought an HP 15-BW030NB laptop. It should support Miracast, however when I try to connect to a wireless display, Windows says that the PC doesn't support Miracast.

If I connect a D-Link DWA-160 WiFI adapter to the laptop, all of the sudden MIracast is supported. This leads me to think the issue lies  with the build-in Realtek RLT8723DE WiFI adapter. According to the specifications the RLT8723DE should support Miracast. My laptop has all of the latest drivers and updates.

Can anyone tell me how I can get Miracast to work with the built-in WiFI adapter?

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand your miracast isn't working,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you check the product specifications to see if the device supports - Miracast?

(Click here to verify the same, if you haven't done it yet) - I'm afraid it is not supported.

If you wish to gain more information on how to use the Miracast wireless technology:

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hello @Riddle_Decipher

Thank you for your reply and help. I believe the laptop I bought should support Miracast for 2 reasons:

1. On https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05189396 it says:

Windows 10 pre-installed. If your computer came with Windows 10 installed, it supports Miracast."

My computer came with Windows 10 pre-installed.

2. In the datasheet for my laptop (http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c05528630&doctype=data%20sheet&doclang=NL_NL&s...) it says:

802.11b/g/n (1x1) Wi-Fi® en Bluetooth® 4.0 combo (Miracast-ondersteuning)

Unfortunately the datasheet is in Dutch but Miracast-ondersteuning is Dutch for Miracast support.

The link you gave is just a very general list of specifications. It doesn't list every technology the laptop supports.

I found a solution: when I install the Realtek driver for the WiFi card (http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=62&Level=5&Conn=4&DownType...) Miracast works. When I install the driver HP provides it doesn't, although the driver HP provides is newer than the Realtek one.

This means there is  a problem with the HP driver. Please fix it.

@mmg2

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I'm glad you found the solution for this concern.

Thanks for taking the time to update the community about the same,

It has been a genuine pleasure interacting with you & I will be more than glad to forward your suggestion to the R&D team so that they could work on updating the drivers, although, that happens only when the Realtek pushes the update to HP as we only have drivers that are re-directed by the manufacturer of the part.

I hope both you and your product works great and remain healthy for a long time 😉

To simply say thanks for my efforts to assist you, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos.

And select Accepted as solution to help others find the same solution as you have.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂

I'm sorry but I cannot accept this solution since it's not a solution.

HP sells this product claiming it supports Miracast, so it should support Miracast. It's not a solution that I have to find and install drivers myself to get Miracast to work.

I also find the attitude that "updating drivers only happens when Realtek pushes the update to HP" unacceptable. HP should fix this issue and not wait for Realtek to send them new drivers.

Most of this is irrelevant though, seeing as the drivers HP provides are NEWER than the drivers Realtek provides. The HP drivers are version 2023.66.1104.2017 from 17/11/2017 and the Realtek drivers are version 2023.56.0502.2017 from 26/06/2017. Yet Miracast doesn't work with the newer HP drivers.

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As mentioned earlier, I have redirected your suggestions about the driver to the concerned team, however, the drivers only show-up on the HP website when the manufacturer pushes the updates forward, that's how it works, although, I respect your point and that's the reason I am forwarding your feedback to the R&D Team, so they should have it updated soon enough.

That said, if you don't feel comfortable marking my post as the solution, you can mark your own post instead as the solution is the only thing that matters, so that others wouldn't have to go through the trouble you did, I hope you understand my point.

Also, the link I shared, didn't contain the Mira-cast on the list, which is why I mentioned it differently, if you already had the specifications, you could have shared it with me to avoid the confusion, the article you have however, should help resolve the issue as that would have been my first reference, great job finding it.

I'm on your side, just trying to help you the best I can within my support boundaries.

It was a pleasure chatting with you, if you have any other concerns, feel free to write it down.

And Have a great day ahead.
