HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Seems I am having to do a lot of software and driver updates via CCleaner.

My internet connection is wireless.

No forewarning - printer screen flashed yellow'ish and went down.

Will not turn on when plugged into any other working plug receptacles.

Hi @ZERB2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Looks like your printer’s taking an unexpected power nap, yellowish screen and all! 😅 Let's get it back up and running, so you don’t have to wrestle with updates and unplugged connections.

HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer is not turning on and you see a yellowish flash before it goes down, this could be due to several reasons such as power supply issues, internal hardware problems, or faulty connections. Let's go through a step-by-step troubleshooting process:

Verify the Power Supply

  1. Check the Power Cable:

    • Ensure that the power cable is securely plugged into both the printer and the power outlet.
    • Inspect the cable for any visible damage. If damaged, try using a different power cable that fits your printer.
  2. Test a Different Power Outlet:

    • Plug the printer into a different electrical outlet to rule out any issues with the original power source.

Perform a Power Cycle (Reset the Printer)

  1. Unplug the Printer:
    • Disconnect the printer from the power source.
  2. Wait for 2-3 Minutes:
    • Let the printer sit unplugged for 2-3 minutes. This helps to reset the internal components of the printer.
  3. Reconnect the Printer:
    • Plug the printer back into the power outlet and press the power button to see if it turns on.

Check for Power Indicator Lights

  1. Observe the Power Button:

    • When you plug the printer in and press the power button, see if any lights illuminate or blink. If the power button light flashes, it may indicate a specific issue that can be diagnosed by HP support.
  2. Look for Error Codes:

    • If the screen flashes yellow, this could indicate an error, such as a hardware malfunction. Note any flashing patterns as they may help diagnose the issue.

Check for Paper Jams

Sometimes a paper jam can cause the printer to shut down unexpectedly:

  1. Open the Printer Access Doors:
    • Open both the front and back doors of the printer.
  2. Check for Jammed Paper:
    • Look for any paper stuck inside the printer and carefully remove it.
  3. Close the Doors Securely:
    • Once you have cleared any paper, make sure the doors close properly and securely.

Test with a Different Power Cord

If you have a compatible power cord, try using it to rule out a potential fault with the original one.

Remove and Reinsert Ink Cartridges

Sometimes, removing and reinserting the ink cartridges can help:

  1. Open the Printer Cover to access the ink cartridges.
  2. Remove the Ink Cartridges:
    • Carefully remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  3. Reinsert the Ink Cartridges:
    • Put the cartridges back into their slots to ensure they are properly seated.

Try a Hard Reset (Factory Reset)

If none of the previous step's help, you can try a hard reset:

  1. Turn off the Printer.
  2. Unplug the Printer from the Power Source.
  3. Press and Hold the Power Button for 15-20 seconds.
  4. Plug the Printer Back In and turn it on.
