HP Pavilion g Series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have tried eveything that I have found on forums to address this issue and nothing is working. I am unable to connect wirelessly to my network. When pressing the F12 wireless button the computer it just toggles between airplane mode and will not let me turn on the wireless device and does not recognize a wireless device in the control panel. The button remains amber colored...

I have tried restarting, letting the battery die and rebooting, checked for driver updates, ran resets in the control panel, tried enabling through the HP Support/Control Panel/Device Manager etc. I can only access the internet when hardwired in.

This is very frustrating and I have spent over 3 hours trying to address this issue after visting several forums and videos on this issue.

Please help!

@m3sears

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the WiFi button doesn't work,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

When was the last time it worked without these issues and did you try a system restore?

Did you run any hardware tests using the F2 (during restart) to identify the issue?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

Most models don't need the wireless button driver for the F12 key to work because unless you have an unknown device in the device manager with a hardware ID of ACPI\HPQ6001, the hardware doesn't exist in such cases you have a problem with the wireless card not being compatible with W10, and it is not working--even though the driver may be installed.

When you go to the device manager and click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category, do you see the wireless network adapter listed there?   You should be seeing that device listed there.

  • If the wlan adapter is not listed there, then there is a problem that I wouldn't be able to help you with.
  • If the driver is not installed you should see a device listed in the device manager labeled as a Network Controller.
  • If the driver is installed, you should see the wlan adapter under the Network Adapters device manager category.

Not showing up at all is not good.

There is a W10 wireless driver you can try for that model card, but it may be too new to work with the hardware version of the wlan card your notebook has.

Click here to download the wireless card drivers from the HP website if you haven't attempted that already using the wired internet, if the issue persists, create a new user account followed by a system refresh and check again.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
