I'm using an HP Spectre x360 laptop. The ethernet connection is not working and the ethernet driver appears to be missing from the Network adapters folder. My scan on the Intel Support site did not provide an ethernet driver download option. what to do? thx

Hi @Zafire,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your Ethernet driver has disappeared from the Network Adapters section on your HP Spectre x360 laptop, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Check Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."
- Look for any entries labeled as "Unknown device" or with a yellow exclamation mark under the "Network adapters" section or "Other devices."
- If you find one, right-click on it and select "Update driver."
Run the Network Adapter Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Find and run the "Network Adapter" troubleshooter to see if it can detect and fix the issue.
Reinstall Network Drivers:
- Go to the HP support website and download the latest network drivers for your specific HP Spectre x360 model.
- Install the downloaded drivers and restart your laptop.
Manually Install Drivers:
- If you can't find the Ethernet driver on the HP website, you can try using the Intel Driver & Support Assistant again. Ensure it's up-to-date and re-scan for drivers.
- Alternatively, check the Realtek website (or other relevant manufacturer depending on your laptop’s Ethernet controller) for the appropriate Ethernet driver.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Sometimes, Windows Update can automatically detect and install missing drivers.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
Use System Restore:
- If the Ethernet driver issue started recently, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state where the driver was working.
- Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore and follow the prompts to restore your system to an earlier point.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Ensure that the Ethernet port is enabled in your BIOS/UEFI settings.
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del during startup) and check the Integrated Peripherals or a similar section to confirm that the Ethernet controller is enabled.
Use a USB Ethernet Adapter:
- As a temporary workaround, consider using a USB to Ethernet adapter to establish a wired connection until the issue with the built-in Ethernet port is resolved.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
