Hi @hannah11804,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing some frustrating issues with your HP laptop. Let's tackle them step by step,
Internet Connection:
- First, ensure that your Wi-Fi is turned on. Sometimes laptops have a physical switch or a key combination (like Fn + F2) to toggle Wi-Fi on/off. Check if it's turned on.
- If Wi-Fi is on but you're still not connecting, try restarting your router/modem. Sometimes a simple reset can fix connection issues.
- If that doesn't work, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network if possible, or use an Ethernet cable to directly connect to your modem/router to see if the issue is with your Wi-Fi network.
- If none of these steps work, there might be an issue with your network adapter or drivers. You can try updating the drivers through Device Manager or reinstalling them.
Settings Not Opening:
- If the Settings app isn't opening, there could be various reasons behind it. It might be a software glitch, corrupted system files, or conflicting applications.
- Try opening Settings using different methods. For instance, you can right-click on the Start menu and select "Settings" from the context menu, or press the Windows key + I.
- If that doesn't work, try running the System File Checker tool to scan for and repair corrupted system files. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow, then press Enter.
- Another option is to create a new user account and see if Settings opens there. If it does, the issue might be specific to your user profile.
- You can also try performing a system restore to revert your system to a previous state when everything was working fine.
Additional Steps:
- Make sure your laptop's operating system is up to date. Sometimes, system updates can fix bugs and improve system stability.
- Run a full antivirus scan to check for any malware that might be causing these issues.
- If the problem persists, you may need to consider performing a factory reset or reinstalling the operating system. Make sure to back up your important files before doing so.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
