I have an HP Envy Laptop 17-cr0000 using Windows 11 Home version 22H2.
Yesterday while I was working offline, the icon came up saying that it lost internet connectivity. I have tried using the trouble shooting tools but this is where I am at...
After running the trouble shooting, a message comes up saying "You're connected using a virtual network adapter that we can't test."
After restarting and having no change, I tried a "network reset" but that did nothing.
On the network settings page, it lists everything as "not present" and "disconnected":
Ethernet (Realtek USB Gbe Family Controller)
Bluetooth Network Connection (Bluetooth Device -PAN)
Wi-Fi (MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax PCle Adapter)
Local Area Connection (Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter)
Is there any hope for downloading adapters/drivers to a thumbdrive and carrying them over to the impacted computer?
I'm not a techie so I'm in way over my head here.
Thank you for any

Hi @MittenTree,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, there is hope for resolving the issue by downloading the necessary drivers on another device and transferring them to the affected computer using a thumb drive. Here's a step-by-step guide on how you can do this.
Identify the Drivers:
- Determine the exact model and version of your network adapters (Ethernet and Wi-Fi) from the manufacturer's website or your laptop's documentation.
- For your HP Envy Laptop 17-cr0000, you mentioned the Realtek USB Gbe Family Controller and MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax PCle Adapter.
Download Drivers:
- Go to the official website of your laptop's manufacturer (HP in this case) or the websites of the respective network adapter manufacturers (Realtek and MediaTek).
- Locate the drivers for the Realtek USB Gbe Family Controller and MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax PCle Adapter.
- Download the latest drivers compatible with your operating system (Windows 11).
Transfer Drivers to the Affected Computer:
- Save the downloaded drivers to a USB thumb drive.
Access Device Manager:
- On the affected laptop, press Win + X and choose "Device Manager" from the menu.
Install Drivers:
- Locate the network adapters in Device Manager.
- Right-click on each adapter with issues, select "Update driver," and choose the option to browse for drivers on your computer.
- Navigate to the USB thumb drive where you saved the downloaded drivers and select them.
Restart Your Laptop:
- After installing the drivers, restart your laptop to apply the changes.
Check Network Connections:
- Go back to the network settings and see if the adapters are now listed as connected.
Verify Connection:
- Try connecting to the internet to confirm that the issue has been resolved.
This process should help resolve any driver-related issues causing the loss of internet connectivity.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
