Network controller not found Envy J151sa (J2E80ES#ABU)

THere is no netwok adapter for LAN in DEvice Manager, only a Ralink RT3290 802,11bgn wi-fi adapter, which works OK.

And so I cannot use a LAN connection, I can use wi-fi though. I've tried another LAN cable although I since found there is no LAN driver anyway.

Windows 10 Anniversary Build, latest (I think).

I tried installing the Lan drivers from the HP site but each time I got a message 'Realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled  please plug the cable'.

I can get LAN connection working OK on another laptop from the same router. I don't know what the driver is even so I'm not sure how I can download it but how do I get the Controller recognised again?

I don't know what that means but how do I get this sorted please?

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try this...

1. Install the AMD Chipset drivers from the link below, and restart the PC.

You want the 1st file listed on the webpage.

2. Then install the latest Realtek ethernet driver from the link below and restart the PC.

Download, unzip and run the setup application for the operating system your notebook is running.

If that doesn't work, you can pretty much bet that the ethernet chip on the motherboard has failed.

Hi, I will try that shortly but I'm puzzled by the references to RAID in the text, I don't use it nor do I want it. Can I be sure that is the correct driver set please?

Your notebook's drive controller is not set to RAID.

The chipset driver will only install the drivers applicable to the motherboard your PC has.

Well, I downloaded the  Amd chipset driver from the first link but it failed to install due to this error :

Error 174 – AMD Installer Cannot Continue Due to an Unsupported AMD Graphics Hardware Configuration. OK, got past that but when I tried ti install the last item on your list I got the same result as when I started. I mean that I had already tried toi i nstal the LAN driver and got  the message about 'Realtek Network Controller could not be found. If deep sleep mode is enabled  please plug the cable'.

So from what you say the controller has failed, but what does that mean now, is it a repairable item or does it mean a new laptop? This one is only just over 2 years old.

So I looked in BIOS and saw a '!'next to Network adadpter which doesn't look good. And there is stuff about power supllies too. Have you come across this at all?

You're very welcome.

That is probably a bad sign if you see a ! mark in the BIOS next to the ethernet adapter.

You would have to replace the entire motherboard to fix the problem, so the easiest thing to do IMO, is to purchase an external USB to RJ-45 10/100/1000 gigabit ethernet adapter if you don't want to buy a new notebook.

Shouldn't cost more than $20-$25.

OK Paul, panic over!

This business about the controller not being found, I discovered this:

The controller goes into sleep mode and the way to wake it up is to remove the laptop battery for about 10 minutes. I did this and I now have my LAN back again! Which is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

So I'm a happy bunny again and I've learned something else.
