Elitebook 845 G7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We are currently deploying new Elitebook 845 G7 laptops to our users. So far, 6 out of 6 are experiencing intermittent drops in connectivity to the network, when on the ethernet cable, connected to the port replicator (rounded square looking device that also provides power and monitor, keyboard, and mouse connectivity via a USB-C cable.

When the ethernet connection drops, our configurations are set up to switch to wi-fi, which happens but after about a 25 to 30 second delay.  However, this behavior repeats back and forth, dropping the wifi once the ethernet signal returns.  These laptops do not have an actual ethernet port on them, so the options for using ethernet are through the port replicator, or an included ethernet to USB-C adapter.  It appears, though we are still testing, that this adapter holds the ethernet connection without dropping.

So far this has happened on every single one of these laptops that has been deployed to date  Is anyone aware of any know issues with the port replicator that comes with this laptop?  Are there driver or firmware issues that need to be addressed?

We are in an environment where our laptops and desktops are provided to us pre-imaged, so there are only a limited number of things we can attempt to try and remedy or even locate the source of the issue.

Thank you.

Hi @TJfromVA

Welcome back to the HP Support Community.

I suspect you use the USB-C G5 dock ?

This is a known issue with this dock which was fixed many months ago with a workaround and now permanently with a dock firmware update, released in September. Please, install latest firmware version 1.0.14.0 Rev.A

Make sure that your Realtek driver is also updated.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Friendly wink - this "port replicator (rounded square looking device that also provides power and monitor, keyboard, and mouse connectivity via a USB-C cable)" is called a dock or docking station 😉 👍

Hello

in addiction you can try this

check Realtek USB driver version. if it's below 1.43 , update it usign 1.43 form HP site or 1.45 from Realek site

if updating driver doesnt' work then in Device Manager , Realtek USB Gigabit properties, Power Management tab, uncheck the option "allow this computer to power off this device to save energy".

With this setting the USB Realtek adapter , is alwasy ON and you should see anymore LAN connection dropping.

same issue happens with USb-C docking and Thnderbolt Docking as they use the same Realtek USB Gibabit LAN device.

bye
