When I use ethernet on my laptop, I am not able to share internet with other devices via hotspot through wi-fi. When I turn on Wi-fi it just goes off as long as the ethernet cable is connected, but when I disconnect the Ethernet cable, then wi-fi works. I have failed to understand this problem.
I need help on this.

If you have a HP Elitebook, turn off the disable the LAN-WLAN switching option which automatically turns off the Wi-Fi when a network cable is plugged in.
Also, go to the Windows control panel>system & security>administrative tools> services.
Stop the "HP LAN/WLAN/WWAN Switching UWP Service" and change the startup to manual.
Now both the WIFI and ETHERNET should work at the same time.
