I just bought a new Pavilion 15-au063nr last week. The WiFi speed is unbearably slow. I have 150MB internet service (FiOS). All of my other devices connect at full speed. The download speed on the HP on www.speedtest.net is only 2-4 MB, and upload speed is only 30-45 MB. My iPad does close to 150MB download and upload speed. The problem occurs on other networks, not just mine, so it is not my router, although I did try rebooting it but that did not change the speed.
If I connect the HP Pavilion directly to the router with a CAT-5 cable and disable WiFi, I get full speed of near 100MB download and upload speeds.
This is very frustrating, a new computer should perform better than this. I am ready to return it and get a Dell if this cannot be resolved in a timely manner.

Hi @MusicalGeek,
Thanks for being a part of the HP community! It will be amply rewarding to work with experts for resolutions, tips and tricks. I understand that you experience slow speeds on Wi-Fi with your notebook. I’ll be happy to assist you. Excellent work troubleshooting the issue by trying to connect to different networks and also using the wired connection. It is a pleasure to assist a tech savvy person like yourself.
I need more information regarding this. Does it happen on battery or with the adapter plugged in also?
If it happens only on battery, try connecting the charger and check if the speeds pick up. In the meantime, I will send you some link to correct situations where the wifi is slow on battery. I found a few great responses on HP forums after some research authored by FlashRam1714,EmeraldAvenger and medic673 all certified HP forum experts. Please perform these steps in these links to try and resolve the issue.

Hi @MusicalGeek,
Thanks for replying. I reviewed the product specs of the unit. It supports 802.11b/g/n . Ideally, it should be compatible with your router. Please let me know if you have performed the following steps?
Have you updated the bios?
Did you try performing a system recovery?
If you’ve done these steps, I request you to perform these steps:
- Go to device manager>Network adapters> right-click on the wireless adapter>click on properties>advanced>Roaming Aggressiveness> set its value to the maximum.
- If there is a “Threshold” option listed, please change it to its highest value.
- Please disable the Bluetooth drivers(Bluetooth adapter ) in device manager and check how it connects.
Please note that when you set roaming aggressiveness to its maximum value there could be some expected battery drains.
Link for product specifications of your computer.
Do let me know how this goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to appreciate my efforts. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution”. If you require further assistance let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help.
Take care now and do have a pleasant week ahead.

Hi, thanks for the tips. I did all of this but nothing worked. I did not do a system restore, since it is a new computer out of the box last week and I should not have to do that already, after spending hours migrating my data over. Disabling the Bluetooth helped a little, but my maximum speed is now 9.68MB downalod and 35-40 MB upload. Something is limiting my Wifi speed.

Thank you for responding to this post,
I've had the pleasure of going through the entire conversation and I'd be glad to assist you both!
As I understand you've been troubled with the wifi speed as it's only providing a transfer speed of 9.68MB after following the steps advised previously, personally I use the internet for gaming and 9Mbps is quite a lot for me, I'm just curious what do you use it for? (I hope I'm not being too personal)
Although! the reason I asked is because you should be able to change the way your computer distributes your data to the applications on windows and limit them to only what you use, therefore increasing the data usage and it's speed, here's a 3rd party website with step by step instructions on how to disable unnecessary programs using you bandwidth: Click here (Please ignore the ads).
If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.
