HP g71-340us
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I never used bluetooth before but wanted to try on this G71 laptop.  There was no bluetooth icon in the Action Center so I went to Network Sharing center and there is no option for blue tooth there either.  Not a real wiz but I tried every support option, installed Intel drivers for Bluetooth, current support Assistant (they just wanted $$).
Checked in the Devise Manager and no BT there either.

Can anyone tell me how to set up or get back the bluetooth network on this laptop.  I am pretty sure it was there before I upgraded from W7 to W10 long ago.

When I try to add a device like a  speaker, it says I have to turn BT on..no option that I can understan on how to do that.

I am no an expert so can the help be kind of simply stated..I appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook.

You are having a devil of a time trying to get bluetooth to work, because your notebook does not come with built in bluetooth hardware.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01887247

If it did, that feature would have been listed along with the Intel WiFi Link 1000BGN wireless connectivity specification.

As you can see from the Intel wifi link 1000 card specs...Integrated Bluetooth = No

https://ark.intel.com/products/59480/Intel-Centrino-Wireless-N-1000-Single-Band

The easiest thing to do to add bluetooth networking to your PC would be to purchase an external USB Bluetooth adapter.

I use this one for example...

I forgot to mention I also tried (bit beyond my comfort level)  to do a Start>runservices.msc and I looked for Bluetooth Support Services and Bluetooth Handsfree Service and set them both to automatic start and local ..still no network

OMG..why couldn't the HP chat just tell me that..thank you so much for helping me fix something I did not have..

Being 72, I have had a computer since they came out and have always stuck to HP but this chat service was the most horrible experience and will cause me not to recommend HP ever again..

If I do have a problem, I will start with this forum..again thank you so much.
