I am considering the HP 15-DY1023DX laptop but was shocked to see that there doesn't seem to be any Ethernet port. Though of course I have wi-fi, for security reasons and for speed I've always used Ethernet even at home, and when travelling, it's a must for me since hotel wi-fi is notoriously insecure. Does HP really hobble this otherwise attractive-for-the-price laptop by not providing an Ethernet port, or am I misreading the specs? It's on sale today, but I will hold off til I can get a reply here. Thanks!

Many thin notebooks now do not have RJ-45 port, and your machine does NOT have. Its specs

I actually have to use old adapters/hubs. And I have 2 more USB 3.0 ports

Banhien, Thank you so much for a speedy reply, although the news isn't what I was hoping for. I never thought of using an adapter...this is USB to Ethernet? Isn't that a lot slower than normal Ethernet? If it's not slower, I would consider it, but if it is slower, one might be better off using wi-fi at least at home, where my security is good. I do think that this is short-sighted considering the security and speed advantages of Ethernet. I understand thin laptops not having CD drives, etc. but to me, Ethernet is a given. Can you tell me if you achieve good speeds with the adapter? I just saw that the one you linked to is $140! Way more than one should have to spend for something I consider basic, no? Again, thanks for the reply!

I bought BOTH from Amazon US. From my memory, I paid for around US$35 for the first one and US$60 for the second one. Amazon stopped to ship to my country therefore I stopped buy goods from Amazon.
Back to your question, as long as it had USB 3.0 - 1G then you should get same speed of a normal 1G LAN port.
Regards.

Thank you & big thumbs up for your quick & helpful replies! Unfortunately the sale at Best Buy was only 1 day & that model is not available on sale anymore but I'm sure it, or something similar, will be again soon. You've given me a good workaround though I still think Ethernet should be a basic! Again, thanx, & hope you & yours are well in this pandemic.
