When I try to print it says printer not connected to the internet but the blue light is on permanently suggesting it is…?

Hi @Baggie1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

It is quite common for an HP printer to show a solid blue light, which confirms a connection to your local Wi-Fi router, while still lacking an actual "internet" connection to reach HP's cloud servers. This "Connected but No Internet" state usually happens because the printer’s DNS settings are unable to resolve HP's web addresses, or the router is blocking the printer’s outgoing traffic to the web.

Verify the Network Connection Status

  • Locate the wireless icon or setup menu on your printer’s control panel.
  • Select Print Reports and then Network Configuration Page.
  • Look at the "Internet" or "Web Services" section of the printout to see if it specifically says "Disconnected" despite having a valid IP address.
  • Check the signal strength on the report to ensure it is at least 3 out of 5 bars.

Manually Configure DNS Settings

  • Find the IP address on the network configuration page you just printed.
  • Type that IP address into the address bar of a web browser on your phone or computer to open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Navigate to the Network tab, select IPv4 Configuration, and choose Manual DNS.
  • Set the Manual Preferred DNS to 8.8.8.8 and the Manual Alternate DNS to 8.8.4.4, then click Apply.

Power Cycle the Complete Network

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug your Wi-Fi router from the wall outlet and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the router back in and wait for the internet lights to turn solid.
  • Plug the printer back in, wait for the blue light to stay solid, and try to print or access web services again.

For more help with cloud connectivity issues, please see the official HP Support: Printer Not Connected to Internet guide.

Is your printer currently enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program, or are you just trying to use standard wireless printing?

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
