This one's a classic...

1. Wifi card disconnects and shows an error after coming out of sleep: About 1 out of 3 times  when the laptop comes out of sleep there's a yellow exclamation sign over the WiFi sign in the systray (bottom right of screen) and the on-mouse-over bubble reads "No Internet Connection" (but it's still connected to the network). I have to disconnect and reconnect to fix it. It seems to happen more when the computer's been asleep for a longer period of time. My old Dell computer never does this, it always connects to the Internet on the same network without fail.

- The go to solution for this is to set "Wireless Adapter Settings" under advanced "Power Options" to "Maximum Performance" on battery and plugged in. However, many of the options under advanced power options is missing for me, including "Wireless Adapter Settings"

 

2. How can I restore all the missing settings under advanced power options? I only have the following: Desktop background settings, Sleep, Power buttons and lid, Display, and Battery. But were is the "Wireless Adapter Settings"? Multimedia settings? Processor power management? Intel Graphics Settings? USB settings? etc.? How do I get these settings back?

I tried creating a custom profile but nothing changed.

Let's jump straight into this -

 

Solution# 1 Network Troubleshooter -

 

1) In the search box, type and open "Troubleshooter".

2) Click on "Network and Internet".

3) Click on "Internet Connections".

 

Solution# 2 Run Network commands -

 

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes.

2) At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

 

Solution# 3 Re-install the Network Adapter -

 

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.

2) In Device Manager, select Network adapters > the network adapter name.

3) Right-click on the network adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

 

Solution#4 Run the Power-Troubleshooter -

 

1) Press Windows key on the keyboard. In the search box, type Troubleshooting and press Enter.
2) Click on "System and Security" > "Power" > Click on "Next" to run the troubleshooter.

 

Solution#5 Reset the Power Plan -

 

1) Right-click on the Start icon (Windows icon) and then click on Command Prompt (Admin).
2) In the command prompt, type 
powercfg –restoredefaultschemes and hit Enter.
3) Exit command prompt. Create a new power plan and check if this resolves the issue.

 

If the issue still persists, try the next steps -

 

Solution#6 Update the computer

 

1) Press Windows key on the keyboard. In the search box, type Windows Updates and press Enter. 
2) Check for updates. 
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer. 

 

Solution#7 Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) -

 

1) Right-click on Start icon (Windows icon) and the click on Command Prompt (Admin).
2) Type the following commands, and then press Enter.  It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.

  • First Command - DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  • Second Command - sfc /scannow

I tried the suggested solutions several times and it did not fix the issue. I have an additional sleep related issue with the fingerprint scanner not working when the computer falls asleep:

Thanks for trying. Please back-up the data and try re-installing the operating system -

 

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F11 once for System Recovery.

4) Choose the Keyboard Layout.

5) Click on Troubleshoot.

6) Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Recovery.

 

 

Note : Back-up all your data as System Recovery will delete everything that you had saved or installed on the computer.
