This is an HP Omen that was working fine.  I started it up after a week of leaving it and it came on fine ...and then went to a black screen... or shut completely down.

I plugged it in believing it might have run its power down but, after some time, it will not start.

Absolutely nothing.

What in the world could have happened?

Thanks.

Hi @Vickt7,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Omen startup issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Power Supply and Battery:

  • Ensure the laptop is properly plugged into a power source and the charging light is on.
  • Try using a different power cord or adapter to rule out issues with the current one.
  • If possible, check the battery health to ensure it holds charge properly.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual electrical charge.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then try to power on the laptop.

Inspect the Display Connection:

  • If you hear sounds indicating the laptop is on but see a black screen, the issue might be with the display connection.
  • Check for loose connections in the display or consider connecting to an external monitor to test the display.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Inspect internal components such as RAM or hard drive to ensure they are seated properly.
  • Listen for any unusual noises that might indicate a hardware malfunction.

Boot into Safe Mode or BIOS:

  • Try booting into safe mode by pressing F8 (or another key specific to your model) during startup.
  • Check if the laptop can boot into BIOS by pressing F2 or F10 during startup.

I hope this helps.
