my older laptop will not longer recognize wifi.  I can only connect to the internet with an Ethernet  cable.  I have reinstalled driver but it did not help.  it worked just fine for several years... then about a year ago it stopped recognizing wifi.  thank you for any help.  I am not real tech savvy.  lol

Hi:

You can try installing the W10 driver from Intel and see if that helps.

Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160

If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to replace the Wi-Fi adapter and it is not very easy to do that.

I recommend you replace the card with this better model instead.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You can find the above model card on eBay.  Search by the HP part number.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the Wi-Fi card removal and replacement procedure.

Your other option would be to purchase a dual band USB Wi-Fi adapter.
