Hi,

Thanks for all your help! I opened up the back and noticed that it is an Intel advanced N 6205 adapter. Located the driver and installed it.

Solved the issue right away. Sorry for the trouble. Should have done it in the first place.

Thanks for all the help.

hi

thanks for the quick response. I tried the first 3 links and couldn't locate the 4th for some reason.

Unfortunately these do not seem to be resolving the issue. I restarted the laptop after each installation.

The real problem i started with was that the laptop does not detect the wireless device any more. After reading through some forums, I figured may be the driver installation will fix it. But I am not sure any more.

This is what I see now after trying all that:

Thanks for your inputs.

Hi

Does the adapter have a name of maker, like Intel?

Try ESC at power up and then F1

Hi

Unfortunately that didn't help, so it may be a Hardware failure.

(reworking my earlier answer, which is no longer relevant as you posted that the issue was solved whilst I was writing my reply)

I had come to the conclusion you would probably need to open the laptop to identify the adapter - and am glad that now you have done so, you've been able to find a suitable driver which has resolved your problem.

The online references show VEN_8086&DEV_008A is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 Wi-Fi adapter - which is a rather old single band 802.11b/g/n 1x1 adapter that, according to the Intel Wi-Fi drivers page (click to open, then click on 'Legacy Adapters') has no drivers for Windows 10 and is not supported on this operating system. That particular adapter is not listed in the HP Service and Maintenance Guide for your laptop.

What appears to have happened is that there are multiple Intel Wi-Fi adapters sharing the same vendor and product IDs (often they are distinguished by subsystem ID) - and that there are no Windows 10 drivers for Intel Wi-Fi adapters this old on Windows Update. Intel never officially supported some Wi-Fi adapters from around that time on Windows 10, and they withdrew all product support for Wi-Fi adapters of that age around two years ago.

Oh I see .. that's good to know. Thanks for that.

And for anyone else stuck with such problems, it's probably better to open up the back and look at what you have before posting your question as you might save yourself and others some extra pain 🙂

Cheers!
