Hi @CASSY6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One Printer is showing an "Offline" status, it means that the printer is not able to communicate with your computer or network. This can happen due to a variety of reasons, including a connectivity issue, a software glitch, or a hardware problem.

To troubleshoot the issue, you can try the following steps.

  • Check the printer's connectivity: Make sure that your printer is properly connected to the wireless network and that it is within range of the router. You can also try restarting your router and the printer to see if it helps.
  • Check the printer's status: Make sure that the printer is not set to "Offline" mode. To do this, go to the "Devices and Printers" menu on your computer, right-click on the printer icon, and select "See what's printing". If the printer is set to "Offline" mode, uncheck the box to bring it back online.
  • Restart the print spooler service: Sometimes, the print spooler service on your computer may stop working, which can cause the printer to go offline. You can try restarting the print spooler service by going to the "Services" menu in Windows, locating the "Print Spooler" service, and clicking on the "Restart" button.
  • Update the printer driver: Make sure that you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer. You can download the latest driver from the HP website.
  • Reset the printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings. To do this, go to the printer's control panel and select "Restore Defaults". Note that this will erase any custom settings and preferences that you may have set up on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
