Pavilion dv6 wireless radio is disabled in BIOS.  Don't know how to turn it back on.

@Ron52
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

  • What is the operating system?

While you respond to that, let's try this workaround:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

And, also you can verify that the Wireless Button is not disabled in the BIOS.

  1. Press F10 at the power-on bios screen
  2. Navigate to the Security menu
  3. Choose Device Security
  4. Verify that "Wireless Network Button" is set to enable. If set to disable, change this to enable and press F10 to confirm settings.
  5. Exit the bios from the File menu, Choose Save Changes and Exit.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo Lake,

Thanks for taking the time to look into this for me.

Product number is A3E82AV.

Purchased back in 2012 when I retired from HP-Corvallis.

Operating sytem is Win 7 Home 64 Bit Service Pack 1

I was on the internet yesterday when I started experiencing issues with throughput.  We are on a slow DSL connect and thought that was the issue.  Reset the wireless router/modem and tried Google Chrome again.  No Luck.  Then HP Connection Manager popped up to say the wireless LAN was disabled in the BIOS.

The steps I have taken include;

1) reset computer (turn off, remove battery, discharge and then install battery and restart)

2) BIOS default setting

3) reloaded the HP Support Assistant looking for software updates/fixes

4) run any diagnostics I could find that might address the issue.

5) searched for any hidden drivers that might impact the issue

One thing mentioned in your text below was to enter the BIOS Setup, go to the Security screen and choose Device Security.  There is not an entry for the Device Security on my interface.

Hope this helps diagnose the issue.

Thanks,

Ron
