Hi @Mark816,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're dealing with a connection issue between the printer and the computer, even though the HP app shows the printer as online. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:
Restart the Printer and Computer:
- Power off both the printer and the computer.
- Unplug the printer for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Restart your computer and try printing again.
Check the Printer's Network Connection:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the Wi-Fi network (or wired connection, if applicable).
- You can check the connection status directly from the printer's control panel, or use the HP Smart app to confirm.
Reinstall HP Smart App:
- Sometimes, the app itself may have a glitch. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app on your computer.
- After reinstalling, reconnect the printer and check if it can be contacted.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Make sure the printer drivers are up to date. You can visit the HP website to download the latest drivers for your model or use HP Smart to check for any updates.
Run Printer Troubleshooter (Windows):
- If you're using Windows, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and choose "Manage" > "Run the troubleshooter."
- Follow the on-screen prompts to fix any detected issues.
Check Firewall or Antivirus Settings:
- If you have a firewall or antivirus program, it may be blocking the printer’s communication with the computer. Temporarily disable it and try printing again.
Check for IP Address Conflicts:
- If you are using Wi-Fi, ensure there are no IP conflicts between the printer and other devices. You can try assigning a static IP address to the printer through the printer's control panel or via your router's settings.
Let me know if any of these steps help, or if you need further assistance!

I hope this helps.
