Hi
My Paviljon Laptop is reacting slowly
Download s peed is 20 Mbps. Normally 80Mbps
Via direct Ethernet i get 80Mbps , the speed the provider is sending me.
No other applications are running. Still the download speed (and uploads as well) is too slow to work confortly with..

What could be wrong? I think the Realtek Wifi adapter doesn't do well.

All help is welcome. Thanks

Hi @marcopete,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your Pavilion laptop is experiencing slow download and upload speeds over Wi-Fi despite having a normal speed when connected directly via Ethernet, there are several possible reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take.

Wi-Fi Interference:

  • Check if there are other Wi-Fi networks in your area that might be causing interference.
  • Change your Wi-Fi channel to a less congested one. You can do this in your router's settings.

Signal Strength:

  • Ensure that your laptop is within a reasonable range of the Wi-Fi router. Walls and obstacles can weaken the signal.
  • Try moving closer to the router and see if the speed improves.

Realtek Wi-Fi Adapter Settings:

  • Check for driver updates for your Realtek Wi-Fi adapter. Visit the manufacturer's website or use the device manager to update the driver.
  • Adjust the advanced settings of your Wi-Fi adapter. You can access these settings through the device manager.

Network Congestion:

  • Check if other devices on your network are consuming a significant amount of bandwidth. Disconnect unnecessary devices.

Router Settings:

  • Restart your router. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Ensure that your router's firmware is up to date. Check the manufacturer's website for any available updates.

Security Software:

  • Your security software or firewall settings might be affecting the network speed. Temporarily disable them and check if there's an improvement.

Background Processes:

  • Check for any background processes or applications that might be using your network bandwidth. Close unnecessary applications.

DNS Configuration:

  • Try changing your DNS server settings. You can use public DNS servers like Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare's (1.1.1.1).

Quality of Service (QoS):

  • If your router supports QoS settings, configure it to prioritize your device for better bandwidth allocation.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a malware scan on your laptop using reputable antivirus or antimalware software to rule out any potential threats.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, it's possible that the Realtek Wi-Fi adapter may not be performing optimally,

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
