Here is what I did    ::;   the only way Possible was to be in Registry

To disable Windows S mode via the registry, you'll need to access the registry editor through Advanced Startup options. This involves loading the system hive, modifying the SkuPolicyRequired value, and then unloading the hive before restarting.

Here's a step-by-step guide:
  1. Boot into Advanced Startup: Restart your PC and enter Advanced Startup options (usually by repeatedly pressing F11, F12, Delete, or another key during startup, depending on your manufacturer).

  2. Open Command Prompt: Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.

  3. Launch Registry Editor: Type regedit and press Enter.

  4. Load the System Hive: In the Registry Editor, select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then go to File > Load Hive.

  5. Locate and load the system hive: Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config and select the SYSTEM file. Enter a temporary name (e.g., "offline") for the hive and click OK.

  6. Navigate to the SkuPolicyRequired key: Expand the newly loaded hive (e.g., HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\offline) and navigate to ControlSet001\Control\CI\Policy.

  7. Modify the SkuPolicyRequired value: Double-click on SkuPolicyRequired and change its value to 0.

  8. Unload the hive: Select the temporary hive name (e.g., "offline") and go to File > Unload Hive.

  9. Restart your computer: Close the Command Prompt and choose to turn off your PC. Restart it to see the changes take effect.

Hi @gat1954,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for explaining your situation. Since you're using Windows 10 in S Mode on your HP 15-fd0083wm, and you're unable to install drivers for network, sound, or touchpad, here's what you need to know and do:

Why You Can’t Install Drivers in S Mode

Windows 10 in S Mode is a streamlined version of Windows that only allows apps and drivers from the Microsoft Store. This means:

  • You cannot install HP-qualified drivers from the HP website or other sources.
  • Even HP’s driver installers won’t work unless they’re available through the Microsoft Store.

Your Options

1. Switch Out of S Mode (Recommended)

To install drivers and use your laptop fully, you’ll need to switch to regular Windows 10:

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
  2. Under Switch to Windows 10 Home, click Go to the Store.
  3. In the Microsoft Store, click Get under the “Switch out of S Mode” section.

⚠️ This is free, but permanent—you can’t go back to S Mode once you switch.

2. Download Drivers After Switching

Once out of S Mode, go here to download all necessary drivers: 👉 HP Laptop 15-fd0083wm (7L2C7UA) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

Look for:

  • Realtek Wi-Fi Driver
  • Realtek Audio Driver
  • Synaptics or ELAN Touchpad Driver

Temporary Workaround (If You Can’t Switch Yet)

If you're stuck in Safe Mode and can't switch out of S Mode:

  • Try booting into normal mode (not Safe Mode).
  • Use a USB Ethernet adapter or USB Wi-Fi dongle that works with Windows Store drivers to get online temporarily.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
