Actually @Paul_Tikkanen is correct, an oversite on my part.  The RJ-11 port is for the modem which means you have to use dial-up for internet.  If your router is broken that would be a way to connect to the internet without the router but if you are used to boradband, you will not be happy with dial-up.

You can connect to the internet with the RJ-11 port if there is Ethernet available for that purpose.  Many places do provide either Ethernet or WiFi for internet use IE: hotels

Just plug in the Ethernet cable to connect to the network and open a browser to complete the sign-in requirements.  If this is at your home, then the Ethernet connection on the modem to the PC is required.

The RJ-11 port only allows for the connection of a networking cable.

That same cable has to connect to something else to get the networking signal -- a router, a switch, a hub, or a cable modem.

The Internet signal has to come from something that eventually connects to the cable connected to your PC.

Good Luck

Hi:

The RJ-11 port is for the modem which uses a RJ-11 telephone cable.

The ethernet port is the RJ-45 port which uses a RJ-45 ethernet cable.

Hi:

You can plug the RJ-45 ethernet cable directly from your cable or dsl modem into the ethernet port in your notebook until you get your router replaced.
