HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1032nw
Microsoft Windows 11

Since installing version 2024.10.231.0 both with the default settings and with settings tweaked for gaming. I have occasionally experienced ping spikes to unimaginable levels. In Rocket League and Rematch, the ping has even reached 1,000. In Rematch, there’s no packet loss, and while Rocket League shows some, I did be skeptical of that reading.

Sometimes I experience random disconnections or a drop in network speed.

Network card: RTL 8822ce

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop (all models that use the RTL8822ce or earlier versions).

I have tried drivers from Dell and Lenovo, but without success.

Hi @Kamil96500

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Intermittent ping spikes, sudden latency increases, and occasional disconnections can have a noticeable impact on online gaming.

Based on the information provided for the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 with the Realtek RTL8822CE wireless adapter, here are the recommended troubleshooting steps.

Update the Realtek Wireless Driver

Even if the issue started after a recent software update, ensure the wireless driver itself is the latest version available for your notebook.

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Right-click Realtek RTL8822CE Wireless LAN Adapter.
  • Select Properties > Driver tab and note the current version.
  • Download and install the latest wireless driver available for your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 model from HP Support.
  • Restart the notebook after installation.

Disable Power Saving for the Wireless Adapter

Power management can sometimes introduce latency spikes during gaming sessions.

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Right-click Realtek RTL8822CE Wireless LAN Adapter.
  • Select Properties.
  • Open the Power Management tab.
  • Clear the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  • Click OK and restart the system.

Set Windows Power Mode to Best Performance

  • Open Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  • Under Power Mode, select Best Performance.
  • Restart the notebook and test gameplay again.

Configure the Wireless Adapter for Maximum Performance

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Open Properties for the Realtek RTL8822CE adapter.
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • Set Wireless Mode to Auto if available.
  • Set Roaming Aggressiveness to Lowest or Medium-Low.
  • Set Transmit Power to Highest.
  • Set Preferred Band to 5 GHz if your router supports it.
  • Apply the changes and restart.

Test on the 5 GHz Wi‑Fi Band

For gaming, a 5 GHz connection generally provides lower latency and reduced interference.

  • Connect the notebook directly to the 5 GHz SSID of the router.
  • Position the notebook within a strong signal range.
  • Disconnect unused wireless devices temporarily and test gaming performance.

Flush Network Configuration

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

ipconfig /flushdns

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

Restart the notebook after completing the commands.

Check for BIOS Updates

Ensure the notebook BIOS is current.

  • Visit HP Support.
  • Search for HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1032nw.
  • Compare the installed BIOS version against the latest version available.
  • If a newer BIOS is available, follow the HP installation instructions.

Test with an Ethernet Connection

If available, connect the notebook directly to the router using an Ethernet cable.

  • If ping spikes disappear on Ethernet, the issue is likely related to the wireless connection, wireless adapter configuration, signal quality, or local Wi‑Fi interference.
  • If spikes remain on Ethernet, the behavior may be related to network traffic, software changes, or the internet connection itself.

Perform HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the notebook.
  • Repeatedly tap F2 during startup.
  • Launch HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the Wireless Module Test and extensive component tests.
  • Review the results for any reported wireless hardware issues.

After completing the above steps, monitor the connection during gaming and compare average ping, spike frequency, and disconnection behavior. In many cases, updating the Realtek RTL8822CE driver, disabling adapter power saving, and using the 5 GHz band significantly improves latency consistency on gaming notebooks.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed response. I followed the suggested steps, and while the situation has improved somewhat, the ping still spikes at random moments (in Rocket League, I experience packet loss, whereas in Rematch, I don't). I’m not sure what to do next; I hope the new RTL8822CE driver fixes these issues I did recommend that the developers test it thoroughly. Support for version 26H2 would also be appreciated. I am using a 5 GHz hotspot.

Best regards 🙂

Hi @Kamil96500

Thank you for the update and for taking the time to work through the troubleshooting steps.

I'm glad to hear there has been some improvement, although I understand that the intermittent ping spikes and occasional packet loss are still impacting your gaming experience.

Since the behavior persists after driver updates, power management adjustments, and network optimization, I recommend continuing to monitor the system with future Realtek wireless driver releases and HP software updates. It is also worthwhile to periodically check for BIOS, chipset, and wireless driver updates specific to your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 model, as these updates can sometimes improve wireless stability and compatibility with newer Windows releases.

As an additional comparison, if possible, test the notebook on a different Wi-Fi network or through a wired Ethernet connection during gaming sessions. This can help determine whether the remaining latency spikes are related to the wireless environment or the adapter's interaction with the current network.

We appreciate you sharing your observations regarding the RTL8822CE adapter and your feedback about future driver validation and Windows 26H2 support. Community feedback like yours helps highlight real-world usage scenarios and network performance concerns.

Thank you again for keeping us updated, and I hope future driver improvements bring further stability to your gaming sessions.

Thank you for the reply.
I look forward to further updates 🙂
I will update this thread once the driver for the rtl8822ce is updated and I have reviewed it.
