I have the same issue with HP note book below and Ralink 3290 card BT no longer functioning. Does the new WIFI  card need to be the HP part number of will a  generic Intel AC7260 work properly? Unsure if this PC has BIOS whitelisted network adapter card?

Hi:

The parts list for your notebook indicates that it comes with an AMD Quad-Core A8-5550M processor.

HP PartSurfer

The Intel 7260 Wi-Fi card will not work in an AMD notebook from that time period.

Your options for an upgrade would be one of these two cards:

Dual band AC:  867 MBPS max throughput on the 5.0 GHz band with an AC or AX router.

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo    HP part #724935-001

Dual band N:  300 MBPS max throughput on the 5.0 GHz band.

Broadcom BCM943228HMB WiDi 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo   HP part # 730668-001

You should be able to find either of these cards on eBay.   Search by the HP part number, not the model of the Wi-Fi card.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the Wi-Fi card removal and replacement procedure.

Thanks for the help, will only the wifi card with the HP PN work? The generic card by model number will not work? These are readily available  new on Amazon.

You're very welcome.

Please post a link to the one you are looking at on Amazon.

I was able to locate the suggested  HP WIFI Card from a PC parts dealer:

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo HP part #724935-001

Questions?

Is my current RT3290 defective or not compatible with recent windows update. The BT quit working after a recent Windows 10 update. The WIFI section of the WLAN card is working correctly.

Are Win 10 drivers available for the suggested  HP #724935-001 card above? Thanks for all of your help.

You're very welcome.

All Ralink model Wi-Fi cards have this problem with the newer builds of W10.

You are one of the lucky folks that haven't lost the Wi-Fi yet, because usually both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth quit working.

The card will work fine if you reinstall W8.1 but I doubt you would want to do that just to be able to use the Bluetooth.

Alternatively, you could always use a USB Bluetooth adapter.

Yes, HP has drivers for the card...

W10 should automatically install them, but if not, here they are...

Wi-Fi:  W10 will update the driver to 7.35.352.0

7.35.351.0
