Just purchased HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-f123ds and the wireless adapther does not poll my 5GHZ network. I've done numerous searches and cannot find any information that this adapther will work  Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn. It does not make sense that this model would not have this feature. I have 2 older Lenovo Thinkpads and of course a Samsung Galaxy S5 that all utilize my 5 HZ network. Depending on the response I may be returning this laptop. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi:

Very few HP consumer notebooks come with dual band cards.

The RTL8188EE is a single band card.

You do not need to do any extensive research on figuring it out.

Any wireless card with a bgn suffix is a single band card.

Any wireless card with an abgn or agn suffix is a dual band card.

That's a shame since the home is increasing becoming more like small Enterprises. Something HP should consider for future consumer models. So I will be returning this laptop since this issue is a huge negative for me.

Thanks for the quick response.

You're very welcome.

Normally it is easy to install a different wireless card but not on that model!

How do you purchase and install a dual band version?

Thank you.

Nevermind, I reread your previous post.  Perhaps a USB version would work?
