Recurring Bluetooth Code 43 on HP Pavilion 15-eg2373cl

Hello,

I’m having a recurring Bluetooth problem with my HP Pavilion 15-eg2373cl laptop running Windows 11.

The Bluetooth toggle disappears, and Device Manager shows MediaTek Bluetooth Adapter with a yellow warning symbol and Code 43. My Wi-Fi continues working normally.

A full shutdown and power cycle temporarily restores Bluetooth, but the problem returns later. A normal restart does not reliably fix it.

So far, I have:

• Updated the BIOS from F.14 to F.21
• Confirmed that the Bluetooth driver is MediaTek 1.3.17.168, dated January 22, 2026
• Tried the HP MediaTek Bluetooth driver package, but it did not replace the newer installed driver
• Ran HP PC Hardware Diagnostics on the MediaTek Wi-Fi adapter/ROM, which passed

Bluetooth is still missing and continues to show Code 43.

Could this indicate an intermittent problem with the Bluetooth controller, wireless module, firmware, or system board? What additional diagnostics or repair options would you recommend?

If you’re comfortable doing so, create a Linux live USB (e.g., Ubuntu) and boot from it without installing Linux. There are many YouTube videos explaining this process, so you can follow one if needed. Once you’re in Linux, use Bluetooth for a while and check whether it remains stable.

If Bluetooth works reliably in Linux but repeatedly fails in Windows, that points more toward a Windows driver or related software issue. In that case, we can try some Windows troubleshooting steps.

However, if Bluetooth also fails in Linux, that would point more toward a hardware issue. In that case, you should visit your nearest HP service center for diagnosis and repair. If your laptop is still under warranty, the repair should generally be free. Call before visit, ask for required documents, etc. Take video of working laptop at service center before giving them for repair. 

Another alternative solution, especially if your laptop is no longer under warranty, is to purchase and use a USB Bluetooth 5.x adapter. A newer version is generally preferable, and Windows will usually install a generic driver automatically. You can disable the internal Bluetooth adapter and use the USB adapter instead. If you choose this solution, make sure to buy a good-quality, well-reviewed USB Bluetooth adapter. You can search Google to learn about its advantages, disadvantages, and which adapters are reliable before making a purchase.

Avoid cheap, low-quality local products. This solution is relatively inexpensive and does not require opening your laptop or replacing the internal wireless module.
