I would like to replace the current RT3290 wifi bluetooth combo adapter, with an adapter thats compatible with both linux and windows 10. I am told Atheros AR9462 is compatible, so would just like to confirm that and would like to know other options as well.

Hi, @Nisheet :

Most folks are installing one of these two Intel cards in their 15-jxxx notebooks with Intel processors.

If you have an AC router..

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0     HP part #710661-001

If you have a dual band N router (and don't plan on getting an AC router for the forseeable future).

Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260AN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi + BT4.0    HP Part # 717381-001

Either card is readily available on eBay or Amazon.

Do your search by the HP part number, not the model of the wlan card.

There is no BIOS whitelist, so even though these cards are not listed in the service manual, they will work just fine.

Make sure you uninstall both the Ralink wireless and bluetooth adapters and drivers in the device manager before installing the replacement card to avoid driver conflicts.

I do not see Linux drivers for either card, but they work just fine on W7 - W10.

You may want to check a Linux forum to see if there is driver support for those model cards.

@Nisheet

Take a look at what the manual has.

Page 25-26.

It depends the age of your laptop if you can use one that is not listed.

What is the 4th number of your laptops serial number???  " Please only the 4th number"
