HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Notebook PC (25W59AV)

Hello HP Support Forum community,

I hope you're all doing well. I am facing an issue with my HP Dragonfly laptop, which is equipped with the Fibocom L850 LTE Module. The SIM card (data SIM) provided by Telia is not being detected on my Linux installation (Ubuntu), despite working flawlessly when I boot into Windows.

Here are the details of my system:

  • Laptop Model: HP Elite Dragonfly G2 Notebook PC
  • Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXX (masked for privacy)
  • Fibocom L850 LTE Module firmware revision: 18500.5001.00.05.27.30
  • Ubuntu distribution: Ubuntu 23.04 (codename "lunar")
  • ModemManager version: 1.20.4

SIM Card Information:

  • Provider: Telia
  • Type: Data SIM
  • The SIM card is compatible and functional, as it works correctly when the laptop is booted into Windows.

Steps taken to resolve the issue:

  1. Verified SIM card compatibility and functionality: The SIM card is working correctly when booting into Windows on the same laptop.
  2. Checked SIM card insertion: The SIM card is correctly inserted into the modem slot.
  3. Installed usb-modeswitch: I have installed usb-modeswitch and created a configuration file as suggested, but the SIM card is still not being detected.
  4. Checked ModemManager status: The output of mmcli -m 0 indicates that the modem is in a failed state with the reason "sim-missing". The SIM card is not detected according to the output of mmcli -i 0 and mmcli -s 0.

I kindly request the assistance of the community and HP support in resolving this issue. If anyone has encountered a similar problem or has any insights or suggestions, please share them in this thread. Additionally, if there are any specific drivers, firmware updates, or configurations that I can apply to enable SIM card detection on my HP Dragonfly with the Fibocom L850 LTE Module in Linux (Ubuntu), I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Thank you all for your attention. I'm looking forward to your responses and suggestions.

Best regards, Richard
