Hi @Brad209,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that your device is displaying a "Looking for printer" error when trying to connect to your HP printer, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Check Printer Status

  • Make sure the printer is powered on and the Wi‑Fi light is solid (not blinking).
  • If blinking, reconnect the printer to Wi‑Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer’s control panel.

Verify Network Connection

  • Ensure your phone/computer and printer are on the same Wi‑Fi network.
  • HP printers typically only connect to 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi, not 5 GHz.
  • Restart your router if needed.

Reset Printer’s Network Settings

  • On most HP printers: press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • This restores network defaults and puts the printer back into setup mode.

Add Printer Again

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Tap Set up a new printer.
  • Follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to Wi‑Fi.
  • Once connected, the app should detect it automatically.

Update Firmware & App

  • In HP Smart, go to Printer Settings > Advanced > Printer Update.
  • Install the latest firmware.
  • Also update the HP Smart app to the newest version.

Take care and have an amazing day!
