My computer performs bad in my local WIFI. I expect 40 - 50 Mb/s but usually get 10 - 17 Mb/s. (I run win 7-64 bit on this computer) There is no other traffic. Intresting is that i have another computer a Compac CQ, running Linux (Ubuntu) 64 bit. There I get 45 - 50+ Mb/s. they are placed on the same spot.

I also have a HP Compac dc5800 running win 7 32 bit. I use a D-link external WIFI unit (it is an "old" computer) I get the same WIFI speed as the other Win 7 computer. BUT when Win XP was running, I got 35 -45 Mb/s!

All systems are updated.

Does someone have an explanation?

Hello letasvar,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand your one computer is slow on a wireless network. To troubleshoot the issue, please try the steps in this HP document: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection (Windows 7)

These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, you can try a manual reinstall of the driver:

1. Go into Device Manager, then Network adapters.

2. Right-click on the wireless driver, and select "Uninstall".

3. Restart the computer. This will force the driver to reinstall itself.

Please let me know the results of your troubleshooting. Thanks!

I have a Pavilion dv6-7138us.  I've been getting speeds of 10-18 when my other wireless and wired devices get 24-30. I had the latest network adapter driver through Windows Update (I assume that's where I got it, or else it came w/ the computer). When I tried to update through the Device Manager, that's the one they'd automatically give me and say it's updated. But when I went to the HP Support site and did a search for any updates and drivers, it listed the previous driver edition as the latest driver. So I installed that one and that worked. I've spent the last year getting half the speed I've been paying for and now it's fixed. Thanks for nothing, Windows Update! Or maybe it's the fault of Qualcomm Atheros for releasing a crappy driver update.

So if you're having this problem, see if you can find a previous driver edition.  The one that worked for me is driver edition 9.2.0.480. I think the one I had was 10.0.0.303. This is for the Atheros ar9485 wifi adapter. Good luck!
