Hi @ashopiece

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

A slow-running HP laptop, especially when using the internet, can be frustrating. Here are some steps to improve performance:

General Laptop Speed Optimization

Check for Background Processes

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for high CPU or memory usage.
  • Disable unnecessary startup programs under the Startup tab.

Free Up Disk Space

  • Delete temporary files (Win + R, type temp, and delete files).
  • Run Disk Cleanup (Win + R, type cleanmgr).

Update Drivers & Windows

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install updates.
  • Update network and system drivers via Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).

Check for Malware

  • Run a full scan using Windows Security or a trusted antivirus.

Upgrade Hardware (If Needed)

  • Consider upgrading to an SSD for faster performance.
  • Adding more RAM can improve multitasking speed.

Improving Internet Performance

Restart Router & Laptop

  • Power cycle your router and laptop to refresh connections.

Check Network Speed

Update Network Drivers

  • Open Device Manager, expand Network adapters, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter, and select Update driver.

Clear Browser Cache

  • In your browser settings, clear cache and cookies to improve loading speeds.

Disable Background Apps Using Bandwidth

  • Open Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage and check which apps are consuming bandwidth.
