My wifi is very slow on my laptop (HP ProBook 640 G1 running Windows 10), but fast on my Samsung Galaxy smartphone (with mobile data turned off), and very fast on my girlfriend's Macbook Pro. Before she upgraded to the Macbook, she had an HP laptop as well, and that also had problems with poor wifi reception. Does anyone know why this might be and whether there is a software update or hardware upgrade that might help? Or do HP laptops just come with subpar wifi hardware? My power plan is set to have maximum networking performance but it doesn't help.
Thanks for any help!

The Probook 640 G1 has several optional wireless modules, some better than others. One of the options is this one:
Intel 802.11 2×2 AC + Bluetooth 4.0 717381-001
This is the best wireless card available for the pci-e form factor. But before you upgrade we need to be sure this is not the one you have already.
See p. 67. It is very easy to remove the back and look to see what adapter you have or you can go into the device manager and just check the hardware ID of it and post here.
