My cable provider just increased my internet speed to 400 mbps. I can only get 200 mbps with my laptop. Other laptops in my family get 400 mbps and if I hook my laptop to the router via a network cable I get 400 mbps. If I just use the laptop wifi I can only get 200 mbps. Any ideas would help. Hi @deesawyer

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your HP product.

To understand the issue and help you, please share the details listed below:

Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial number, phone number, email ID, etc., on your public post.

- Exact model number/product number(SKU number) of your HP Product (Click here for information on how to find the model number/product number).

- Error messages (if any) on the unit.

- When was the last time it was working fine?

- Were there any changes made to your PC recently?

In the meantime try these steps:

1. Check Wi-Fi Adapter Settings:

  • Device Manager:
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Network adapters, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, and select Properties.
    • Go to the Advanced tab and look for settings related to Wireless Mode or 802.11n/ac. Make sure it's set to the highest mode supported (usually 802.11ac).

2. Update Wi-Fi Drivers:

  • Driver Update:
    • In Device Manager, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

3. Change Wi-Fi Channel:

  • If you're using a dual-band router, ensure you are connected to the 5 GHz band (if available), as it typically offers faster speeds.
  • Access your router settings through a web browser (usually by typing in its IP address, often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and change the Wi-Fi channel to avoid interference from other networks.

4. Disable Power Saving Settings:

  • In Device Manager, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter, select Properties, then go to the Power Management tab. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

5. Network Reset:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status and scroll down to Network reset. This will remove and reinstall all your network adapters and reset networking components.

6. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows is fully updated by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking Check for updates

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

-Regards
