Hello, sorry for the delay in replies, had some personal issues that needed attending. I am downloading and installing the Ralink driver now and I will be sure to give you an update to how that works once it is installed for perhaps a day or two to ensure a good test drive so to day. I am glad to know the wireless card is not sealed from readjusting and I will check to see if it is seated propperly. I will give an update on that when I reply back about the new driver just to save on replies, incase anyone else is following this like I was doing before finally typing a post myself.

No worries!

Also, if for some reason you have issues with 5.0.23.0, also try 5.0.21.0 from that same page. A user on another thread reported positive results with 5.0.21.0 before 23 came out.

If either version resolves the issue, update the thread with which one, if/when you get a chance 🙂

Sorry, late to the thread.  The latest driver did not solve the issue for me.  My wifi adapter seems to have a horrid signal when you leave the roon that has the router.

I have tried everything - changing the router channel, different networks, making sure the antennae are connected on the wifi card...

Tomorrow I am going to grab a USB wifi card.  If the problem goes away I know it is my wifi card.  If it helps anyone, I am not on an n network, these issues are on a b/g with a Uverse 2-Wire router.

I hope there is not a design issue, I really like this laptop 😕

Envy Dv7t, Windows 8, Ralink - super slow download and upload speeds on my wifi.  Other devices from the same locations test out MUCH faster.  Testing out as low as 2.5-1.5 down and .5 up unless I am in the room with my router.

Hopefully this doesn't violate TOS - but this laptop:

For anyone following this thread, if you find yourself in the same position as Yankee_In_TX, please see the following thread to see the result of his issue when it becomes available.

I just found this thread after searching for help with my new computer.  I'm having some of the same issues posted here on this thread.  I just purchased a new computer two weeks ago and I keep loosing my wireless connection.  The issue started right out of the box when I first turned on the computer and it automatically connected to my wireless router.

Envy touchsmart 20-d030 xt all-in-one with Windows 8

Ralink RT5390R 802.11 bgn WiFi Adapter

driver version: 4/12/13  5.0.25.0

Router:  Netgear N600 High Performance Dual Band wireless router (wndr3400)

I looked at the ralink driver website posted in an earlier post and I think I have the most current driver version.   I've also manually run the windows update to make sure everything is current.  help...

Suggestions will be make sure you have the latest Ralink driver, BIOS, etc.

They may have you do a system restore.

For the Envy Dv6 and Dv7 no alternate wifi card could be found for purchase from HP.

Run www.speedtest.net and feel free to post your results.

For me I found that if I was in the room with the UVerse router (b/g) I ran fine (and got the speedtest results I expected).  Going upstairs I would lose the signal (speedtest would crash or have super slow results) - when other devices in the same room tested fine.  I bought a Belkin router that advertised extra signal strength and set up an n network.

That helped immensely, my conclusion was that the Ralink needs a very strong signal and maybe that is does better on n than b/g.

Thanks for the reply.  Here are my speedtest results:

Ping:  28 ms

Upload: 3.62

Download: .97

I'm not in the same room as the wireless router - it's a couple rooms away on the same level in my house.  My old HP laptop seemed to work fine in the same room as the new computer.  It never lost connection...

Now run the test with your laptop close to your router.

Those results are very slow and tell me the wifi card is not picking up the signal well.

Hello sorry for so long in getting a chance to reply. My laptop wifi issue seems to have been cured! Thanks so much for helping. I had gone and updated the driver to I beleive the .23 one since the .21 driver did not want to download for some reason. And since then it seems there has been an update through HP or Windows updater since it now shows I have 5.0.25.0 and still working great, and I am finding I am holding a better signal on both the gateway modum router combo provided by my ISP and my Dlink 4500 gaming router from anywhere in the house (except outside the house which is good) Hope this solution helps others out who had similar or th same issues.

@stephentx and Yankee_In_TX I can echo Yankee_In_TX's post about it working better on an N network. Though, I am not sure if it is just this card that works better on N or Windows 8 altogether.
