     Yes, Paul,

That looks like the same ad  sent the text description from.  Thanks for checking it and following up with me about it.  I'll go ahead and get that on it's way.  I'm sure it'll be nice to get my system somewhere close to what I've missed lately, thanks to you.

I'll let you know how it turns out, if you won't mind.   Heck!  I may even get back to you again to see if, with your help, I can get some more of the "bugs" out of this thing and try to actually tackle some of the kinks and stiffness that it's joints and sore spots have acquired over the years I've had it.  I wish there was some way I could return the favor...who knows?

I guess I'll go back over to amazon and see if I can place an order.

Thanks for everything.  I'll probably get back with you again soon.

Anytime.

Looking forward to your report.

Before you install the new wifi card, go to the device manager and uninstall the Ralink wifi card and driver.

See if you can do the same thing with the Ralink Bluetooth by selecting the 'Show hidden devices' option in the view tab at the top of the device manager window.

W10 should automatically install the wifi and bluetooth drivers for the Intel 7260.

     Paul,

Thanks for the advice.  I never noticed anything about hidden devices in device manager....and I was looking!  I'm pretty sure I must've mentioned I found nothing saying "bluetooth" anywhere either.  I had run across an article mentioning something about "device name lost" or something like that....I should've paid more attention to that.....and when I tried to go back to double check that....I couldn't find it.  I'm sure glad you noticed my item in this site. You're a regular lifesaver.

Anyhow, I  placed an order for the part...I noticed a bunch of similar cards offered - after I'd placed the order...some with much lower pricing....the main thing I noticed was a lot of differences in how the ads were worded to make what seemed similar items sound so dis-similar...anyway, I should get the one I ordered in a week, or two....that's kind of disturbing too....the longer time for delivery wasn't announced until after the order had been placed....oh well.

In any case, thanks again for the last post and additional advice....don't hesitate to add to that, if anything else occurs to you, okay?  And like I said....I'll probably be getting back to you once I've got everything in place and tried it out.

      Paul,

It's Thursday, March 3rd and I've installed and tried out the replacement.  The Wi Fi may be slightly improved (hard to tell for sure) but I've done everything I can think of to check and update and there doesn't seem to be any way it's going to have bluetooth...in fact there was a note I passed along the way saying something like "this device does not have bluetooth"  Was I ever disappointed!  I'm sure it used to....and I'm pretty sure I don't want to go back to 7, so ....maybe a USB Bluetooth adapter?  I don't know.   I'm not sure if I should've tried slipping this post in where I'm doing it, but I hope this gets to you

   Let me know, okay?

Thanks for everything.

Hi:

If you ordered the Intel 7260 card, it has Bluetooth.

There have been a couple of folks that had the same issue as you did and they had to mask one or two of the pins on the wifi card for the Bluetooth to show up.

It appears to be the device and I do have Wi Fi.  Any clues/instructions/illustrations that might get this thing to do what it ought to?   If so, they'd be greatly appreciated.    Also, Hi.    And thanks for getting back to me.

You're very welcome.

Watch that video is the only suggestion I can offer.

If you can leave the antenna wires connected when you do that, it will be easier.

If you just mask the one pin first, and if you have to remove the antenna wires again, then don't connect the antenna wires unless the Bluetooth shows up in the device manager as shown in the video, since you will have to remove it again to mask the second pin.  It will save you time and trouble.

Just make sure that you unplug the battery and disconnect the notebook from the A/C adapter when you are working with the wifi card.

If you don't want to go through the trouble, you can buy a USB Bluetooth adapter, but masking the pins should work.

     Paul,

It must've taken me at least three shots to write the last post I sent you.....before I went back and noticed the thing about the YouTube link.   After reading it I had pretty much the same idea as your suggestions just now...which I appreciate and will surely try before tracking down a USB adapter....which also might be a good idea, in fact I also read a lot of the comments on the video page....it sure seemed like a lot of people were having a lot of difficulties besides me.....with differing degrees of frustrations in dealing with them.  I'm just hoping to get this laptop of mine functioning again the way it should.

Oh, did I ever mention I was glad to see the card arrived and was anxious to make the repair, but had multiple interruptions to deal with while I was working on it and then while I tried to write the preceding message?

Anyway, thanks again.  I'll be sure to let you know how it all turns out.

Anytime.

One other thing...If the Bluetooth was working in W7, but not working on W10, if you had the HP connection manager software installed on W7 and the Bluetooth happened to be turned off via the connection manager software when you upgraded the PC to W10, the Bluetooth would still be turned off with no way to turn it back on in W10.

You can do this to turn the Bluetooth back on in W10...

Make a bootable Ubuntu installer.

Get Ubuntu | Download | Ubuntu

Tutorial for how to make the file bootable...

Create a bootable USB stick with Rufus on Windows | Ubuntu

Boot from the Ubuntu installer.

Select the option to 'Try Ubuntu without installing.'

See if you can turn on the Bluetooth in Ubuntu.

If you can, turn it on, exit out of Ubuntu and shut down the PC.

Remove the bootable installer and when you get back into Windows, the Bluetooth should be working.

If you can't turn on the Bluetooth with Ubuntu, then you will need to make that minor modification to the Intel wifi card.

     Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me with that information.  I haven't done anything with this thing since yesterday and since this wouldn't require having to open it up to do the isolate pins thing....not to mention trying to find some tape, or other suitable stuff...like the super glue trick....(actually, I'd hate to use that and find out it might totally kill everything somehow)...anyway, I might find the time....and a usable flash drive and try what you suggested here.  Of course I'll let you know if I do and any results I  might get.

Thanks again for the message...wish me luck.
