Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Guys, Merry Xmas.

I have the following question.  My Laptop used to have miracast (ability to cast image to a wireless device - but no longer.  It also doesnt do sharing of it's internet connection (via wifi).  I am thinking the two issues are connected but i cant be sure.

The laptop is running windows 10 pro 64bit.  It was upgraded from the consumer grade windows 10 it came with.  I think the issue preceeds the update but i can swear to it.

Any ideas is Windows 10 updates broke the sharing or the miracast?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Display sharing through Miracast intermittently disconnects when the connection between your computer and the Miracast device, such as a TV, is established before the computer connects to a wireless network.
To ensure a stable connection, connect the computer to a wireless network before establishing a Miracast connection.

And, also perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open the HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Next step run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_lake,

thanks for the suggestion.  The case is different i am afraid. (yes all updated via windows/hp support assistant.)

Miracast doest work/exist all the time (nothing intermittent).  It is the same for making the laptop into a hotspot.  It just wont activate.

I tried downgrading the wifi driver (to an aug 18 version) and for a little while miracast/connect to wireless device was back as an option (as was the hotspot feature) - this only lasted till the next reboot.  I then upgraded the aug 18 driver to the newest one and it worked again.  Until the next reboot.

So the issue occurs after a reboot. There is a note on the internet about this being possibly connected to the pc being joined to a domain and Group Policy Settings but my IT dept say the setting isnt set by them.  So what could affect things after the reboot?

the following link is what i have managed to find myself.
