Stream 8
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

have a HP W8 tablet that prior to installing a new wifi modem/router worked perfectly.  After installing the new modem, the tablet will not recognize the new network.  My computer, television, another tablet (Android) and two cell phones found it immediately.   I've tried all the trouble shooting available on the tablet going through all steps, even tried manually connecting.  I entered the name of the new network, all the info and password.   It said that this network already existed, but still will not recognize it.  If there's anything left as far as troubleshooting, I fail to find it.  I've been through all I can find.

It will pick up the neighbor's network over 100 yards away and I also took the tablet to work with me, and it picked up 8 networks immediately after turning it on.

Any help would be appreciated,  John

Is your new Router set to 5 GHz Network? The WiFi Card on the Stream might not be able to detect 5 GHz Network

To assist you better please provide me with the complete Notebook model or the product number

You can refer to this Link: hp.care/2bygf7l for help in locating the Product Number.

It's a Stream 8 (W8.1) Product #:  K4F56UA#ABA    Serial #: CNU4489BLY

I've looked at the router and cannot determine what its setting is.  It's a CenturyLink Model C4000LG .  Let me know how to find this setting, if you need it.

Thank you for your response and time,

John

I found this after I posted the above:

Beamforming - Improves range and performance for both 2.4 and 5GHz devices
• Simultaneous Dual Band Wi-Fi - Supports both Wi-Fi bands simultaneously to increase available
bandwidth and provides a reliable Wi-Fi network for smooth online gaming without any network
congestion

It is recommended you contact your ISP to make any changes in your Router because this might disrupt the connection for other devices

Thank you.  Changing the router was mentioned to me in the Microsoft forums, but I was hesitant to do it on my own, as I was encouraged to do, citing the reason you mention above.  I'm not computer savvy enough to go in and change a bunch of settings on my own.

As soon as ISP support is available, and I have time, I'll give this a try, and report back here with results.

One question, before I contact my provider.  The Stream's network adapter is a Realtek RTL8723BS.  How do I know what network it is set up for?  2.4 GHz or 5?   The closest thing I've found in its properties is the bandwidth, 20-40 mhz.

Here are the technical specifications for the router:

Wi-Fi 6 Dual Band Wi-Fi
- 2.4 GHz: 2x2 (Tx/Rx) 1024 QAM 40MHz,
up to 600 Mbps
- 5 GHz: 2x2 (Tx/Rx) 1024 QAM 160MHz,
up to 2.4Gbps
- Backwards compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac
Wi-Fi
- OFDMA Uplink and Downlink§
- 1024-QAM
- 160MHz channel support*
• Dual-Core 800 MHz MIPS InterAptiv Processor
• Programmable BSS Coloring
• Supports UNII-1, UNII-2 & UNII-2x (DFS),
UNII-3 channels
• High Power Wi-Fi amplifiers
• Five 10/100/1000 Mbps gigabit Ethernet ports -
one WAN/LAN and four LAN
• One DSL Port

The device is compatible only  with a 2.4 GHz network, you may check the specifications here

If the network has different network names (SSID) for each network then make sure you connecting the device to a 2.4GHz network.

You may also try the steps in the document -Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 😎

The router only has one SSID that I can find.   How do I get into the router and be sure the 2.4 GHz doesn't have a different name?  I tried entering the address (192.xxx.x.x) and got a warning I couldn't get past.

Again, I tried manually entering the network and get the message "this network already exists", but it still won't recognize it.  Also, it will not come up in  "Known Networks" or "Networks to Forget".  Went through all the steps in the network and sharing center.

Thank you
