Notebook 17x 173dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently upgraded my internet to 100Mbps through my ISP, Spectrum. I have a new Modem and Router (separate units). I now have 2 WiFi connections, a 2G and a 5G. I am not able to see the 5G newtork on my HP Notebook, but I can see it with my old MacBook Pro, my iPhones and my Kindle readers. I can only see and log onto the 2G network with my notebook. Anyone have any idea what is going on here? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi:

There aren't any that are listed as supported for your model notebook since it only has one antenna cable, but if you want to experiment with one, you can order this new model from HP which works with only one antenna cable like your notebook has.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 9461 802.11 AC 1×1 WiFi + Bluetooth 5 Combo Adapter (non-vPro) (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L25889-005

$22.00 from the HP parts store.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series.

The wifi card R & R procedures can be found in chapter 6.

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05447632

The wifi adapter is a single band (2.4 Ghz) wifi adapter.

Anytime you see a wireless N card specification with a suffix that ends in b/g/n, that means it is a single band wifi adapter.

Dual band wifi N adapters have suffixes that end in a/b/g/n or a/g/n.

Paul: is it possible to upgrade the network adapter to one which will see the 5G network, and, if so, where do I find it and do I have to have it installed? Thanks.
