OS installed: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
Error Message: "Turn on wireless capability"
Changes made before issue occured: None
Hi, like what the subject says, I'm unable to turn on the wireless for my laptop. I've tried the wireless button above the keyboard and also tried to turn it on via Windows Mobility Center but both have failed. Turning on the wireless button above the keyboard did nothing, while below is a screen of what Windows Mobility Center displayed:
As you can see above, it shows that my wireless is off but the "Turn Wireless On" button is greyed out, preventing me from turning it on this way.
My wireless was all fine before I shut down and when I turned my laptop on the next day, this happens. Can somebody offer me some help?

Using Windows system restore to return your notebook to the state it was before this happened may resolve the issue for you.
As you can see in the following image after clicking on start and typing system, Restore system files and settings from a restore point becomes an available option. Click on it and follow the prompts. Be sure and choose a restore point dated before the wireless problem happened.

No. Your data is safe. the nice thing about Windows system restore is that you can even roll back after the process is complete.

The first thing to do is right-click System Protection, then select the C drive. Now click on Configure and in the window that is invoked select Restore system setting and previous versions of files. Now click on Apply and then OK. The image below is from one of my desktop PC's. I use a different method for emergency recovery. I have system images stored on my NAS.
Now that you have System Restore set up, you can click on the Start button -->All programs --> HP --> Recovery Manager. Click on Recovery Manager. You can reinstall the driver from within the recovery manager while booted into Windows. Ignore the red box in the following image. You should click on the Drivers and Applications Reinstall.
Find the wireless driver amongst those on the list, put a tick in the box and in the lower right hand bottom, click on install.

I'm sorry Erico, but my laptop doesn't have the HP Recovery Manager. I installed it but there's this 'Harddisk.dll' problem that keeps appearing. Searching on the internet doesn't help as some sites say the DLL file doesn't have to be installed and it's just some problem.

Did you make a recovery disk set or usb recovery media?
The drivers can be installed by using the recovery media also. Use the same procedure that I detailed in the images after you put the recovery disk or media in and the recovery manager starts.
From what I have read, harddisk.dll appears to be malware. It is not part of the operating system What are you using for an internet protection solution?

Know this is an old post but it was never REALLY solved within this thread. I literally had the exact same issue and rolling back to an earlier install did zero to help this issue. Nothing suggested within this thread worked.
The answer is actually even more simple. Just download the HP Wireless Assistant for whatever version of Windows and machine you have .
HP Wireless assistant allows you to finally turn on the WIFI when the button and other means within totally failed.
Literally worked in two seconds. I downloaded HP Wireless Assistant to an External Drive and used this drive on the affected laptop to install.
Worked like a charm, this after HOURS of messing with everything I could think of.
