Hello, for a long time I have been experiencing a problem with my PC regarding the Ethernet network.
Once I connect the router to the computer via LAN cable, the network is unidentified and unavailable in the ethernet network settings.
I am attaching a screenshot of the problem.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Hi @Zonni,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing an issue where the Ethernet connection is not being recognized, which is typically related to network settings, drivers, or hardware problems. Here are some steps to troubleshoot this issue on your Compaq Presario CQ61-304SL Notebook PC.
Check the Ethernet Cable and Router
- Try a Different Cable: Sometimes, the Ethernet cable might be faulty. Test with a different cable to ensure the issue isn't with the connection.
- Test Other Devices: Check if other devices (e.g., another laptop or desktop) work with the same cable and router port.
Check Device Manager for Network Adapters
- Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager.
- Expand the Network Adapters section. Look for your Ethernet adapter (it could be named something like "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller" or similar).
- If you see a yellow triangle or an exclamation mark, this indicates a driver issue. Right-click on the adapter and select Update Driver.
Update Network Drivers
- Go to the Device Manager as described above.
- Right-click on the Ethernet adapter and choose Update Driver.
- You can choose Search automatically for updated driver software to let Windows find the appropriate driver.
Reset TCP/IP Stack
- Open Command Prompt as administrator (search for "cmd" in the Start menu, right-click and choose Run as administrator).
- Type the following command and press Enter:
netsh int ip reset
- Restart your computer and check if the Ethernet connection is recognized.
Check IP Configuration
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog, type ncpa.cpl, and press Enter.
- Right-click on the Ethernet connection and select Properties.
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click Properties.
- Ensure it is set to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Check Router Settings
- Ensure the router's Ethernet port is functioning correctly and the router itself is not blocking the connection.
- Restart the router and try connecting again.
Perform a Network Reset
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down and click on Network Reset.
- Click Reset now and restart your computer.
Test the Network Adapter
- If the Ethernet adapter still isn't working after these steps, it could be faulty. You can test with an external USB Ethernet adapter to see if the issue is with the onboard network card.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
