Sure, it's a Wi-Fi card that you can remove to insert another one.

If you haven't purchased the laptop buy one that comes with an Intel Wi-Fi adapter. 

 

You would have to take the notebook apart, remove the Realtek Wi-Fi adapter and install the Intel one.

 

It isn't the easiest thing to do either.

I have not purchased anything yet. I'm looking for something that already has built in what the university is suggesting.

That model is not sold with an Intel Wi-Fi card; you'll need to look for another model.

It depends on your budget; in general, models that use Intel Wi-Fi cards are more expensive. The following model is marketed with Intel Wi-Fi, but you should always ask the salesperson, because it may also be equipped with Realtek.
