HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-f137ds (ENERGY STAR)
Linux

Looking to upgrade my network card for my HP notebook 17-f137ds, any helpful hints and links are appreciated. Would like Bluetooth if not 5ghz WiFi .  It is single antenna cable unfortunately.

Thank you in advance!

The parts list for your notebook indicates that it comes with a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn Wi-Fi adapter.

A dual band card would require two antenna wires in order to work properly.

Open up the notebook and let me know how many antenna wires are attached to the Realtek card.

If there are two, I can recommend a dual band Wi-Fi card with Bluetooth.

If there is only one antenna wire, I can recommend a single band Wi-Fi card with Bluetooth that works with one antenna wire.

there is only 1 antenna attached.  Could you give me both recommendations? Could i not add an additional wire?  Thank you.

You're very welcome.

These would be the two cards that should work in your notebook:

One antenna wire:

Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11bgn 1×1 + BT 4 LE Combo Adapter    HP part # 753077-001

Two antenna wires:

Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo  HP part # 724935-001

You should be able to find both cards on eBay.  Search by the HP part numbers.

Adding a second antenna wire will require extensive disassembly of the notebook.

You will need to find and buy the antenna part number listed in chapter 3, page 33 of the service manual:

Antenna Kit (includes left and right wireless antenna cables and transceivers and screws) for HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC
HP part # 763691-001

This is the same part number listed in your notebook's parts list, and you have discovered that there is only one antenna wire unless the second one is hidden someplace inside the notebook.

HP PartSurfer

The antenna wire removal and replacement procedure can be found in chapter 6 on pages 85 & 86.

I would not be able to help you with finding or installing a second antenna wire as it is a project I would never consider undertaking.

You can check on eBay for the antenna wire.  Search by the HP part number.
