I bought this laptop for my wife recently but have since discovered the wifi card (HP part number 915618-002) is only 2g.
I want to upgrade this to a 5g but does anyone know if this is as simple as just replacing the wifi card ? And if so what part number do I need ? She needs the laptop to work from home at the present time so am under pressure from her to sort this if I can so any help would be really appreciated !

Hi:
Yes, you can upgrade the card to this model...
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.
The only place I have been able to find this model is on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15
The card has the same throughput as the RTL8723 on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.
On a dual band wireless N router, it would have a maximum throughput of 150 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.
Below is the link to the service manual.
